So is Presidents’ Day a celebration of Washington’s birthday or of Lincoln’s? Or is it both? Or is it a day to recognize and celebrate all of the U. S. Presidents?
Good question. And the answer really depends on who you’re talking to. Though the observance first began as a commemoration of George Washington’s birthday, it has slowly evolved to include all the presidents, though different states may officially recognize the day in different ways, or not at all! Regardless, the federal government officially recognizes Presidents’ Day on the 3rd Monday of every February. Federal employees can enjoy a day off of work, banks and financial institutions are closed, and most schools are out as well.
But however you choose to celebrate Presidents’ Day, I hope you’ll take note of at least one or two of the remarkable men who have served our country in the highest office of the land.
