Testimonies to the Birth of Christ: Witness Accounts from the Nativity Story {Free Printable Script}

Why, Mary and I grew up together! 
We’ve been friends for as long as I can remember!  And so of course I was one of the first to
hear the whole story.

I teach the teen girls’ Sunday school class at our church and last year I set out to find a suitable script for my class to perform in our church’s annual Christmas program.

And it wasn’t easy, believe me.  Good, relatively brief Christmas skits and plays aren’t easy to find, and finding one to suit all girls was even more of a challenge!


So when all else fails, you write your own script.  And doing so worked very, very well.  My girls, (can’t help but refer to them that way,) enjoyed performing these simple monologues and the crowd response was wonderful.

Here you’ll find 7 monologues; testimonies from 7 women concerning different aspects of the story of Jesus’ birth.  The first 6 include a friend of Mary’s, a sister of Joseph’s, Elisabeth, the innkeeper’s wife, the innkeeper’s servant, and the wife of a shepherd.  The 7th is the testimony of a modern Christian woman.  For the performance of their monologues, the first 6 dressed in 1st century clothing, while the 7th dressed in modern clothes.

We didn’t have a lot of time for memorization, so I encouraged my students to read their parts enough to be familiar with them, and then allowed them to use a reading stand for their scripts.  (I had other students who didn’t want a speaking part, but they, too, dressed as 1st century ladies and joined the others on stage.)

And while this was written for all girls, it could easily be tweaked to include boys.  (And, yes, it’s okay to do that.  So long as you aren’t changing my script and then posting it as your own work, I’m cool with it!)  And because kids, (or adults,) can read their parts, there’s not a lot of prep work and practice to be done, though I do recommend having your students read their parts aloud as many times as possible so you can help them add some dramatic flair where necessary.
