Help Wanted: What to Do with the Big Empty Wall

Help Wanted What to Do with the Big Empty Wall

I am not the kind of person who can’t ask for help when I need it.  And, boy, do I need it!

See this wall?

This pic makes my wall look electric yellow, but don’t be deceived. It’s actually a nice, soft, very sensible yellow…

I have a deep affection for this wall.  I see such potential in its size and its placement.  It is painted a beautiful pale yellow.  It’s trimmed by a lovely wood and metal railing.  I am overwhelmed by the possibilities for this wall.

And I have no idea what to do with it.

I love decorating, but it is true this house has created some challenges for me.  For one, I’ve been adjusting to an open floor plan.  I love it in every way, but I will admit I’ve been thrown for a bit of a loop trying to decorate it.  And this is a brand new house.  I’ve almost felt like I would be sinning if I put a hole in the wall without knowing exactly what I wanted to hang there.

But we’ve been here a year.  It’s time to make some decisions.

So I’m asking for help.  What on earth do I do with this big wall??

I’ve considered a grouping of round clocks in various sizes.  Because I love clocks.  I also saw a picture once where someone hung a long drapery rod along a wall and suspended photo canvases from it at different heights.  That might work.

But I haven’t been able to come to a decision.

So if you have an brilliant ideas for me to consider…

Just so you know, my wall is about 12 feet across.  It sits nearest the family room area of our great room, but it is visible from the entire space.  Like I said before, it’s yellow.  (And that isn’t changing.)  The wall sits above the staircase, so whatever I put there won’t be exactly easy to hang, which might be important to consider.

So what do you think??  Feel free to hit me with any suggestions in the comments below.  I’m open to any and all ideas, (with the exception of painting my wall,) so please share!

I like the idea of a gallery wall of clocks! That would be fun. I did a gallery wall of antique mirrors and empty frames up my staircase. You can see it here: https://followtheyellowbrickhome.com/welcome-yellow-brick-home-spring-living-room-tour/
Best of luck with the wall!

I DO love clocks, so I’m leaning toward those or old window panes. Your decor is amazing, by the way. I’m finding lots of inspiration from your beautiful blog!
